At what time does the boat arrive in Punta Arenas?

The ship aims to arrive in Punta Arenas at 11.30 am, however, be careful with the schedules of your next flights, as there is always the possibility that we will be affected by adverse weather conditions and the airport is 30 minutes away of the port.

Will my cabin have a view?

All Australis cruise cabins have panoramic windows so you can see the wonderful landscapes outside.

Do I have to pay port taxes?

Yes, this will be charged to you during the booking process or added to your final payment as they are not automatically included in the price of the cruise.

What is included in the cruise rate?

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Free Bar (when bartender is on duty)

Daily shore excursions as scheduled by the ships

Whisky and hot chocolate during the shore excursions

All onboard activities

Is there Internet connection onboard?

We do not have Internet or Wifi service aboard our ships.

Do we always disembark at Cape Horn National Park?

Shore landings at Cape Horn National Park is subject to weather conditions. The disembarkation success rate for this excursion last season was 85%.

Are there additional charges?

Yes. The cruise cost does not include visa fees, national park fees or Chile and Argentina port fees.

Port Fees

Total port fees per person for 2018-2019 bookings are as follows:

- Punta Arenas to Ushuaia route: US$60
- Ushuaia to Punta Arenas route: US$60
- Punta Arenas to Ushuaia to Punta Arenas route: US$70
- Ushuaia to Punta Arenas to Ushuaia route: US$70
These fees may change at the discretion of port authorities. They are not included in the cruise rate and must be paid along with your final payment.

Reciprcocity Fees

To enter Chilean territory, citizens of Albania, Australia* and Mexico who embark with Australis must pay a customs reciprocity fee prior to embarking. This is required for entering Chile and the document must be handed over to Australis at check-in time; otherwise you will be denied boarding.

* Australian citizens only need to pay if they are entering through the International Airport Arturo Merino Benitez at the city of Santiago.

To enter Argentine territory, citizens of Australia and Canada who are embarking with Australis must pay the reciprocity fee online, prior to embarking. This is required to enter Argentina and the document must be handed over to Australis at check-in time, otherwise you will be denied boarding.

This fee is mandatory and you cannot embark without it.

Is smoking allowed on board?

Smoking is only allowed in the ship's outer decks due to Chilean law 20.105, which forbids all smoking indoors.

Are there elevators onboard?

Our ships do not have elevators or other equipment necessary for those with ambulatory needs.

Are there hair dryers onboard?

All cabins are equipped with hair dryers.

Is there first aid care?

Every ship is staffed with crewmembers who are prepared to provide first aid and care to passengers, should this be required.

Are penguins seen throughout the season?

No, penguins are normally seen from early October through early April before they migrate to the north.

Is there an onboard store?

Our ships are equipped with a small souvenir store where you can purchase sportswear, souvenirs and other gift items created exclusively for Australis.

Should we tip on board

Tips are at the discretion of the passenger. But we suggest US$15 per day per passenger for the staff and crew, handed in at the reception desk on the last day of the cruise.

What will the weather be like?

Patagonia's weather can change from day to day or even minute to minute. Expect a blend of sunshine, overcast, rain, wind and perhaps even a tiny bit of snow. During the cruise season, temperatures fluctuate between 5 and 15 degrees centigrade (41 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit).

Are pets allowed?

We regret not being able to accept pets onboard.

Are safety boxes available?

Our ships and crews are not responsible for loss of money, travelers checks, jewelry or other valuables. For your comfort and security, safety boxes are available in each cabin.

Is there any insurance policy?


The cruise lines (Transportes Marãtimos Terra Australis S.A.; Transportes Marã­timos Via Australis S.A. and Transportes Marã­timos Geo Australis S.A.) have insurance policies that cover civil liability for potential losses or damages that may be suffered by, or caused to, passengers and their properties onboard our vessels. Said liability is governed by the conditions of the sea transportation contract of passengers as outlined in your ticket, and by the pertinent regulations of the Third Book of Commercial Code of the Republic of Chile. 

Notwithstanding, if a passenger wishes to be covered for health, death or other risks that could take place during the voyage, affecting the passenger or his/her goods, or whishes to have assistance in those events, it is recommendable that he/she acquire a special insurance policy risk with the company of his/her preference.

What is the electric voltage on board?

Cabins are equipped with 220 volt plugs. Plugs for both 220 volts and for 110 volts are found in the bathroom

What languages are spoken by the crew?

Our official onboard languages are Spanish and English. However, you may find guides who speak French, German and Italian.

How can I pay onboard?

Items from the onboard shop (such as souvenirs, books and sportswear) can be purchased with Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners credit cards, travelers checks, U.S. dollars, Euros, Chilean pesos or Argentinean pesos.

Can you use drones or camera extension poles?

According to the provisions of the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), in the Protected Wild Areas of the Magallanes Region, the use of drones or any RPAS technology is prohibited.

On Magdalena Island the use of Selfie Sticks for cameras is prohibited, since they disturb the wildlife.
